Early Life and Vaudeville:
Early Career: He began his stage career in 1903 in vaudeville, developing a trademark comedic persona featuring over-the-top hats, squeaky "whoo-whoo" vocal deliveries, and nonsensical sight gags.
Broadway and Revues: He became a massive star of the Ziegfeld Follies and self-produced his own highly successful Broadway revues, most notably the 1921 hit The Perfect Fool.

Radio and Television Pioneer:
"The Fire Chief": In the 1930s, he became a national household name starring in the Texaco-sponsored The Fire Chief radio program.
Television Breakthrough: With the dawn of TV, he hosted The Ed Wynn Show (1949–1950), which made history by becoming one of the first network variety shows. He was awarded an Emmy for Most Outstanding Live Personality in 1950.

Dramatic Success: Later in life, Wynn surprised audiences and critics by shifting to profound dramatic acting. He earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Mr. Dussell in The Diary of Anne Frank (1959).
Disney Icon: He charmed new generations of audiences by voicing the Mad Hatter in the 1951 animated classic Alice in Wonderland and playing the floating Uncle Albert in Mary Poppins (1964).
