Brief Biography:  David Benjamin Wain is best known as a founding member of the sketch comedy troupe The State and for directing the cult classic comedy film Wet Hot American Summer and the hit comedy Role Models.

Career & Notable Works:
The State & Stella (1990s–2000s)Wain's career took off while he was at NYU in 1988, where he helped form the sketch comedy group The State. The group went on to create and star in their own highly influential sketch comedy show on MTV. Following The State, he teamed up with fellow members Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black to form the surrealist comedy trio Stella, which eventually spawned a Comedy Central series.
Directing & Feature Films (2001–Present)Wain made his feature film directorial debut with the 2001 camp comedy Wet Hot American Summer. The movie, which he co-wrote with Michael Showalter, has achieved legendary cult status and launched the careers of numerous major stars. Wain's subsequent directorial features include:
The Ten (2007), Role Models (2008), Wanderlust (2012), They Came Together (2014), and A Futile and Stupid Gesture (2018).

Television & Streaming:
On television, Wain co-created, directed, and starred in the Adult Swim medical parody Childrens Hospital. He also returned to the Wet Hot American Summer universe to direct the Netflix prequel and sequel miniseries. His acting credits include appearances in series like Broad City, Portlandia, and his own semi-autobiographical web series, Wainy Days.
