Brief Biography:
Damon Wayans Jr. is the eldest son of comedian Damon Wayans Sr., he is best known for starring as Brad Williams on Happy Endings, Coach on New Girl, and as Wasabi in Big Hero 6. He currently co-stars and produces the CBS comedy series Poppa's House with his father.
Early Life and Career Beginnings:
Born in Huntington, Vermont, and raised in Los Angeles, Damon Wayans Jr. comes from the prominent Wayans family of entertainers. He made his on-screen debut at age 11 in his father's 1994 film Blankman. Although he originally had a passion for animation and studied at the Otis School for Art and Design, he eventually gravitated toward the family's comedy roots. At just 20 years old, he became one of the youngest staff writers on television for his father's sitcom My Wife and Kids, where he also made acting appearances. To build his own stand-up identity separate from his famous family, he initially performed under the pseudonym "Kyle Green".
Television Success:
Wayans Jr. secured his first major breakout role as the sensitive, lovable husband Brad Williams in the ABC sitcom Happy Endings (2011–2013), earning a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination. He is also widely recognized for playing the athletic and neurotic "Coach" on the FOX series New Girl.
Film and Stand-Up:
In film, Wayans Jr. starred as the lead in the comedy spoof Dance Flick (2009) and the 2014 buddy-cop hit Let's Be Cops alongside Jake Johnson. He also provided the voice for Wasabi in Disney’s Oscar-winning animated film Big Hero 6. Despite his heavy television and film schedule, he actively tours comedy clubs and theaters nationwide to hone his stand-up routines.
