Brief Biography:
Paul F. Tompkins is known for his dapper comedic style, extensive voice-acting work, and prolific career in the podcasting industry. He first gained widespread prominence as a writer and performer on HBO's Mr. Show with Bob and David.
Early Life & Stand-Up Beginnings:
He first stepped onto a comedy stage at the age of 17 at The Comedy Works in Philadelphia, initially performing as half of a sketch duo with the late Rick Roman. He briefly attended Temple University before dropping out to pursue comedy full-time, eventually relocating to Los Angeles in 1994.
Television & Film Career:
Shortly after arriving in LA, Tompkins co-created a live sketch show called The Skates. This caught the attention of Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, leading to his hiring on the seminal sketch comedy program Mr. Show with Bob and David. He won an Emmy Award as part of the writing team for the show. Throughout the late 1990s and 2000s, Tompkins became a fixture on television as a regular talking head for VH1's I Love the... series and later took over as the host of VH1's Best Week Ever. His additional television credits include appearances on Real Time with Bill Maher, IFC's Comedy Bang! Bang!, and hosting No, You Shut Up! on Fusion. As an actor, he had memorable film roles in Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood and Magnolia.
Voice Acting:
Tompkins is highly recognizable for his voice work in animated series. He is perhaps best known for voicing the endlessly optimistic Mr. Peanutbutter on the critically acclaimed Netflix series BoJack Horseman. His other voice roles include Gladstone Gander on Disney's DuckTales reboot, Shorty in the film Tangled, and various characters on Fox's Bob's Burgers.

Tompkins is widely considered a pioneer and staple in the comedy podcast landscape. He has hosted multiple popular podcasts, including The Pod F. Tompkast, The Dead Authors Podcast, and Spontaneanation with Paul F. Tompkins. He is a foundational staple and the most frequent guest on the long-running Comedy Bang!
