Marilyn Sokol is highly regarded for her versatility across stage, television, and film, with celebrated performances ranging from her comedic Off-Broadway roles to beloved voice work in children's television.
Early Life and Career:
Birth & Education: Born in the Bronx, she graduated from Queens College and began her professional entertainment career in 1966 as a belly dancer in the national touring company of Man of La Mancha.
Theater Beginnings: She honed her acting and comedic chops with the radical San Francisco Mime Troupe and the Open Theater, participating in notable off-Broadway productions like The Beggar’s Opera and Merry Wives of Windsor.
Notable Roles:
Film: Sokol’s on-screen presence made a major mark in the late 1970s and 80s, including her quirky supporting role as Stella in Foul Play (1978) and her performance as Lulu Brecht in the 1980 musical comedy Can't Stop the Music.
Voice and Television: She is also widely known for providing the voice of Ma Otter in the beloved 1977 holiday special Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas and for contributing her voice acting to the educational children’s show Between the Lions.
