Brief Biography:  Sinbad, born David Adkins, is renowned for his high-energy, clean storytelling. Rising to fame in the 1990s, he became a household name through hit HBO comedy specials, memorable television roles like Coach Walter Oakes in A Different World, and classic family films like Houseguest and Jingle All the Way.

Early Life and Military Career:
David Adkins grew up in a strict religious household as the son of a Baptist preacher. He attended the University of Denver on a basketball scholarship, lettering twice until an injury ended his athletic career. Following college, he served in the United States Air Force as a boom operator. It was during his time in the military that he first began participating in talent shows, discovering his knack for stand-up comedy.

Breakthrough in Comedy and Television:
After leaving the Air Force, Sinbad spent years touring and doing unpaid club sets—a period he referred to as his "Poverty Tour". His major breakthrough came in 1984 when he appeared on the competition show Star Search. This exposure led to early acting roles and a career-defining gig as Coach Walter Oakes on the hit NBC sitcom A Different World, which he starred in from 1987 to 1991. By the early 1990s, his fame had skyrocketed. He produced and starred in his own hit HBO stand-up specials—such as Sinbad: Brain Damaged and Afros and Bellbottoms—and even led his own Fox sitcom, The Sinbad Show (1993–1994).

Film and Pop Culture Icon:
Throughout the 1990s, Sinbad became a fixture of family cinema. He starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the holiday comedy Jingle All the Way (1996) and headlined the 1995 comedy Houseguest. His other notable film and television credits include roles in First Kid (1996), Good Burger (1997), and Disney's animated film Planes (2013). In 1997, he authored the comedic self-help spoof book Sinbad's Guide to Life: Because I Know Everything.

Health Challenges and Recovery:
In October 2020, Sinbad suffered a severe ischemic stroke caused by a blood clot. The medical emergency required multiple surgeries, leaving him in a medically induced coma for a period and forcing him to relearn how to walk and speak. With the support of his family, including his wife Meredith Adkins, Sinbad has been courageously documenting and fighting through his physical rehabilitation to regain his mobility and strength.
