Marc Summers is recognized for hosting Nickelodeon's Double Dare and Food Network's Unwrapped, he began his career as a stand-up comic at the Comedy Store and transitioned into television as an audience warm-up act.
Early Life and Stand-Up Roots:
Marc Berkowitz paid his dues in the 1970s working as a magician, disc jockey, and stand-up comedian in Los Angeles. To break into the business, he changed his surname to Summers after a national news event involving an individual with his birth name. Early in his television tenure, he served as an audience "warm-up" comedian for popular network shows like Soap, Star Search, and Alice. He received his first big break in 1972 when he filled in as the announcer for The Joker's Wild.
Breakthrough in Television:
Summers shifted his stand-up pacing and comedic skills to the game show format, gaining widespread fame in 1986 as the original host of Nickelodeon’s Double Dare. He brought his energetic, improvisational, and physical brand of comedy to children's television, cementing the show as a massive hit.
Hosting and Producing:
Following the success of Double Dare, Summers transitioned into adult-oriented programming, most notably hosting the Food Network's Unwrapped for a decade. Behind the scenes, he became a prolific television executive producer, overseeing hit reality shows such as: Dinner: Impossible and Restaurant: Impossible.

Summers has been a prominent spokesperson for the Obsessive-Compulsive Foundation. He has lived openly with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a mental health condition that profoundly shaped his life and career behind the scenes. He has documented his journey with OCD and his resilience in the entertainment industry in his Off-Broadway one-man autobiographical show, The Life and Slimes of Marc Summers.
