Brief Biography:
Marc Summers is recognized for hosting Nickelodeon's Double Dare and the Food Network's Unwrapped.
Early Life and Career Beginnings:
Summers started his career in the entertainment industry in the 1970s as a magician, radio DJ, and stand-up comedian at the legendary Comedy Store in Los Angeles. He initially paid his dues by warming up live studio audiences for iconic TV shows like Soap, Star Search, and Alice. Early in his career, he changed his professional last name from "Berkowitz" at the advice of his agent to avoid confusion with the "Son of Sam" serial killer.
Rise to Television Fame:
Summers got his big break by filling in as an announcer on The Joker's Wild. However, his defining role came in 1986 when he was selected to host Nickelodeon's messy, physical game show Double Dare. His natural comedic timing, warmth, and ability to handle live chaos catapulted him to stardom. He later hosted other successful shows, including What Would You Do? and Unwrapped.
Production and Behind-the-Scenes Success:
While he built a massive public profile in front of the camera, Summers also transitioned into a prolific television producer. He served as the executive producer for hit Food Network shows such as Dinner: Impossible and Restaurant: Impossible.
Personal Life and Current Endeavors:
Throughout his high-profile television career, Summers silently battled severe Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). He eventually went public with his diagnosis in the 1990s and has since become a prominent national spokesperson and advocate for the OCD Foundation. In recent years, Summers has taken his storytelling to the stage, touring and performing his highly acclaimed, autobiographical one-man show, The Life and Slimes of Marc Summers. He also hosts the podcast Marc Summers Unwraps.
