Brief Biography:
Bob Saget was widely recognized as "America's Dad" for his wholesome television roles. He starred as Danny Tanner on the hit sitcom Full House and hosted America's Funniest Home Videos. In stark contrast to his family-friendly on-screen persona, Saget was equally celebrated in the comedy world for his edgy, unfiltered, and R-rated stand-up routines.
Early Life and Start in Comedy:
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he developed an interest in medicine initially but later discovered a passion for filmmaking and comedy. He enrolled in Temple University’s film school before moving to Los Angeles to immerse himself in the stand-up comedy circuit.
Rise to Television Stardom:
Saget secured his place in pop culture history through several massive television roles:
Full House (1987–1995): He starred as Danny Tanner, a lovable, widowed father of three girls. He later reprised the role in the Netflix reboot, Fuller House (2016–2020).
America’s Funniest Home Videos (1989–1997): He served as the original host of the wildly popular blooper and user-submitted video show, becoming a staple of Sunday night television.
How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014): He provided the voice of the narrator, the older Ted Mosby, who recounts the story of how he met his wife.
Stand-up and Other Endeavors:
Behind his squeaky-clean TV dad image, Saget maintained a successful, fiercely adult-oriented stand-up comedy career for over four decades. He routinely toured across the country and released a variety of specials and albums, eventually earning a Grammy Award nomination for Best Comedy Album in 2014 for That's What I'm Talkin' About. In 2014, he also released his New York Times bestselling memoir, Dirty Daddy. He was also known for his philanthropic work, particularly for the Scleroderma Research Foundation, a cause championed in honor of his late sister, Gay.
