Brief Biography:
Horatio Sanz is known for his eight-season tenure as a cast member on NBC's Saturday Night Live. A foundational figure in modern improv, he began his career in Chicago and made history on SNL as the show's first Latino cast member.
Early Life and Career Beginnings:
Born in Santiago, Chile, he immigrated to the United States as a child and was raised in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood. He developed a passion for comedy, cutting his teeth at Chicago’s renowned The Second City theater and eventually co-founding the famous Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) improv troupe.
Saturday Night Live (1998–2006):
Sanz joined Saturday Night Live in September 1998 as part of a highly celebrated rookie class featuring Jimmy Fallon and Chris Parnell. During his eight years on the show, he was noted for his infectious energy, willingness to break character, and versatility.
Notable Characters: He was memorable in sketches as pothead Gobi in "Jarret's Room", A/V teacher Mr. Banglian in "Wake Up, Wakefield", and Frankie Hilbert on "Boston Teens".
Impressions: He regularly impersonated figures such as Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, and Saddam Hussein.
