Brief Biography:
Raymond Albert Romano is best known for his hit CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond and for voicing Manny the mammoth in the Ice Age franchise, he is celebrated for his relatable, observational humor about marriage and family life.
Early Life and Stand-Up Roots:
Romano was an avid fan of Saturday Night Live in the 1970s and early 1980s. He briefly studied accounting at Queens College before deciding to pursue a full-time career in stand-up comedy. He spent years grinding on the New York City comedy club circuit, making early national TV appearances on Star Search and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
Everybody Loves Raymond and Stardom:
Romano’s career skyrocketed after a successful set on the Late Show with David Letterman in 1995, which led Letterman's production company to develop a show based on Romano’s life. Everybody Loves Raymond premiered in 1996 and ran for nine highly successful seasons. Romano won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and later made television history as one of the highest-paid actors on TV.
