Brief Biography:  Beverly "Pudgy" Wines Cardella was known as the "First Lady of Insult" and the "female Don Rickles". Her father gave her the nickname "Pudgy" when she was just a baby because of her chubby cheeks. She became a pioneer in the entertainment world at a time when very few women did stand-up comedy.

Early Life and Career Beginnings:
The Nickname: Her father was a milkman with a great sense of humor. He called her Pudgy when she was six months old.
Beauty School: She went to high school in Chicago and later attended beauty school to become a hairdresser.
The Singing Waitress: Her comedy career started by accident. She worked as a waitress at busy lounges near Chicago City Hall. She would sing songs and trade funny remarks with the customers to get by.

Rise to Fame and Comedy Style:
Crowd Work: Pudgy was famous for interacting directly with her audience. She would walk around the room, pick out a customer, and playfully roast them.
No Writers: She wrote 100% of her own material and never used outside writers.
Clean Comedy: Unlike many insult comics, she made people laugh without using bad words or vulgarity.
Musical Talent: Singing was a huge part of her act. She had a wonderful singing voice that she mixed into her jokes.

Las Vegas Stardom:
Pudgy became a major star in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. She spent years headlining major casino shows, including the Crazy Girls revue at the Riviera and X Burlesque at the Flamingo Hotel. She even hosted a big television special on the Queen Mary ship in 1983.

Family First:
Even though she was called "the next big thing" in comedy, Pudgy chose to focus on her three children rather than chasing Hollywood fame. Her husband, Michael Cardella, acted as her manager so they could balance family life and show business together. Her son, Mike Cardella, also grew up to become an actor and comedian in Las Vegas.
