Brief Biography:
Henry Phillips is multi-talented recognized for his dry, self-deprecating humor and original songs. He achieved cult fame for his semi-autobiographical film Punching the Clown, its sequel Punching Henry, and his hit satirical YouTube web series, Henry's Kitchen.
Early Life and Musical Roots:
Henry Phillips grew up immersed in the entertainment industry as the son of a character actor. Initially starting his career as a sincere singer-songwriter in the 1980s and 90s, he grew jaded with the industry. This frustration led him to transition into comedy, where he parodied the super-sincere singer-songwriter persona by writing ironically honest and twisted songs about human failure and everyday absurdity.
Stand-Up and Television:
Phillips has been a fixture in the stand-up scene for over two decades. His television credits include a half-hour special on Comedy Central Presents, multiple appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and a role as "John the Server Guy" on HBO's Silicon Valley. He also co-starred in Comedy Central’s Drunk History.
Filmmaking and Henry's Kitchen:
In 2009, Phillips co-wrote and starred in the award-winning meta-comedy film Punching the Clown, which took home the Audience Award at the Slamdance Film Festival. He followed it up with a sequel, Punching Henry, released on Showtime. He is perhaps most widely known for his wildly popular YouTube channel series, Henry's Kitchen, which parodies amateur online cooking videos with awkward deadpan delivery and a sense of existential dread. His other notable web projects include his Patreon series The Highway Man.
