Brief Biography:
Eugene Mirman is best known for voicing Gene Belcher on FOX's Bob's Burgers. A staple of the alternative comedy scene, he is recognized for his absurdist humor, unique storytelling, and multi-volume comedy albums like I'm Sorry (You're Welcome).
Early Life and Education:
Mirman immigrated to the United States with his family when he was four years old. They settled in Lexington, Massachusetts. For college, he attended Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he designed his own major in comedy. His senior thesis was a full-hour stand-up performance.
Stand-Up and Live Comedy:
Mirman began performing stand-up in the late 1990s in Boston before moving to New York City, where he became a prominent figure in the alt-comedy movement. He co-founded the Pretty Good Friends comedy shows and established the annual Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival in Brooklyn, which ran for a decade. His festivals and life are chronicled in the documentary It Started as a Joke. He released several notable comedy albums via Sub Pop Records, including The Absurd Nightclub Comedy of Eugene Mirman and Vegan on His Way to the Complain Store. He also authored the parody self-help book The Will to Whatevs.
