Brief Biography:
Laurie Metcalf is an original ensemble member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Best known for her iconic comedic television role as Jackie Harris on Roseanne and The Conners, she is a four-time Emmy Award winner and two-time Tony Award winner, with an Academy Award nomination for Lady Bird.
Early Life and Theater Roots:
She attended Illinois State University, studying theatre alongside future stars like John Malkovich and Joan Allen. She quickly became a foundational member of Chicago's renowned Steppenwolf Theatre Company, where she cemented her reputation as a dramatic and comedic powerhouse.
Television Breakthrough:
Metcalf gained widespread mainstream fame in 1988 for her breakout TV role as Jackie Harris, the neurotic yet fiercely loyal sister to Roseanne Barr in the hit ABC sitcom Roseanne. Her brilliant, physical brand of comedy on the show earned her three consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards. She reprised the fan-favorite character in the spinoff The Conners. She famously voiced Andy's mother, Mrs. Davis, in the Toy Story franchise and played the killer Debbie Salt in Scream 2. She received widespread critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress as Marion McPherson in Greta Gerwig's 2017 comedy-drama Lady Bird.

Metcalf is highly decorated in the theater world. She won back-to-back Tony Awards for Best Actress in a Play (A Doll's House, Part 2 in 2017) and Best Featured Actress in a Play (Three Tall Women in 2018).
