Brief Biography:  Michael McKean is an American actor, comedian, and musician best known for playing Leonard "Lenny" Kosnowski on Laverne & Shirley, David St. Hubbins in the mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, and Chuck McGill in Better Call Saul. He is a highly versatile performer who transitioned from improvisational comedy to an acclaimed dramatic and musical career.

Comedy Beginnings:
Education: He studied at Carnegie Mellon University and New York University, learning improvisation from Omar Shapli and studying alongside Olympia Dukakis.
The Credibility Gap: In the late 1960s and 70s, he joined the Los Angeles satirical comedy group The Credibility Gap, alongside Harry Shearer and David L. Lander.

Breakthrough Roles:
Laverne & Shirley (1976–1983): McKean skyrocketed to fame alongside David L. Lander (who played Andrew "Squiggy" Squiggman) as the eccentric, lovable neighbor Lenny Kosnowski.
This Is Spinal Tap (1984): McKean co-created and starred as David St. Hubbins, the lead singer and guitarist of a fictional heavy metal band. The film, which was largely improvised, pioneered the "mockumentary" genre and has become a cult classic.

Christopher Guest Ensemble & Saturday Night Live:
Christopher Guest Films: He became a staple of Christopher Guest's iconic mockumentary ensemble, appearing in films like Best in Show (2000) and A Mighty Wind (2003).
Saturday Night Live (1994–1995): At age 46, he became the oldest person to join the repertory cast of SNL, having the unique distinction of having both hosted and been a musical guest prior to joining the cast.

Later Career & Acclaimed Dramatics:
Better Call Saul (2015–2018): McKean returned to dramatic television with widespread critical acclaim, playing the brilliant but mentally ill lawyer Chuck McGill, the brother of Jimmy McGill (Saul Goodman).
Voice Acting: He has lent his voice to dozens of animated shows, including Rugrats (as Grandpa Lou Pickles), The Simpsons, and SpongeBob SquarePants.

Music & Awards:
McKean is an accomplished composer and musician. Along with his wife, actress and singer Annette O'Toole, he co-wrote the song "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" from A Mighty Wind, which earned them an Academy Award nomination. He shared a Grammy Award for the film's title track, "A Mighty Wind".
