Brief Biography:  Marc Maron is best known for his landmark interview series, WTF with Marc Maron, and his critically acclaimed roles in the Netflix series GLOW and the IFC sitcom MARON.

Early Life and Stand-Up Roots:
Maron moved frequently due to his father's military service, ultimately growing up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He graduated from Boston University in 1986 with a B.A. in English literature and immediately dove into the stand-up comedy scene. He got his start working the doors at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles before relocating to New York City in the 1990s, where he became a staple of the alternative comedy circuit.

Television and Media:
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Maron was heavily championed by late-night television, appearing more than 40 times on Late Night with Conan O'Brien—more than any other stand-up. He also hosted shows like Comedy Central's Short Attention Span Theater and held radio gigs on the left-wing network Air America.

The WTF Era:
After losing his Air America radio job and dealing with the fallout from a divorce, Maron experienced a massive career resurgence in 2009 by launching the WTF with Marc Maron podcast from his Los Angeles garage. Known for his intense, raw, and highly empathetic interviewing style, he conducted over 1,600 episodes, including a historic 2015 interview with then-President Barack Obama. The podcast officially concluded in the fall of 2025.

Acting and Film:
Maron's rising pop-culture footprint translated directly to the screen. He created and starred in the IFC autobiographical comedy series Maron (2013–2016) and co-starred as director Sam Sylvia in the hit Netflix series GLOW. His major film credits include roles in Joker (2019), Respect (2021), and voice work in DreamWorks' The Bad Guys franchise.

Comedy Specials and Books:
Known for mining his neuroses, grief, and personal struggles for stand-up material, he has released multiple specials, including End Times Fun (2020) and the widely acclaimed HBO special From Bleak to Dark (2023). He is also a published author, having written The Jerusalem Syndrome: My Life as a Reluctant Messiah and Attempting Normal.
