Brief Biography:  Mark Alan Lowry is celebrated globally for his successful solo comedy career, his 20+ years as the baritone singer for the Grammy-winning Gaither Vocal Band, and for co-writing the modern Christmas classic, "Mary, Did You Know?"

Early Life and Education:
Born in Houston, Texas, Mark Lowry was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and childhood hyperactivity—conditions he would later incorporate as foundational material for his stand-up routines. He initially enrolled at Liberty University to pursue a business degree, but he soon felt a calling into music and evangelism. While traveling and singing in churches during his early twenties, Lowry discovered his knack for storytelling and comedic timing.

Comedy and Storytelling:
Often describing himself as a "poster boy for hyperactivity," Lowry built a massive following by blending self-deprecating humor with profound spiritual truths. His stand-up specials—such as Mouth in Motion, Mark Lowry on Broadway, and Mark Lowry Goes to Hollywood—achieved gold and platinum certifications. His comedic style is largely unscripted and conversational, allowing him to seamlessly shift from a hilarious personal anecdote to heartfelt encouragement.

Music and "Mary, Did You Know?":
Beyond his comedy, Lowry is a deeply influential gospel musician. In 1984, while writing a Christmas program for his church, he penned the lyrics to the iconic song "Mary, Did You Know?" with music composed by Buddy Greene. The song has since been recorded by hundreds of artists across all genres. Between 1988 and 2013, Lowry spent more than two collective decades performing as the baritone for the legendary Gaither Vocal Band. He was also a permanent fixture as Bill Gaither's comedic co-host on the best-selling Gaither Homecoming videos.

Legacy and Present Career:
Today, Lowry continues to travel and entertain audiences, bringing his unique mix of Mark Lowry Comedy and music to fans across the globe. Whether sharing stories about growing up, motorcycle wrecks, or the realities of aging, Lowry remains a highly influential figure in both Christian entertainment and mainstream gospel music.
