Early Life:
Phillip David Lewis was born in Uganda, East Africa, while his father, Delano Lewis (who later served as a U.S. Ambassador to South Africa), was working for the U.S. Peace Corps. Because of his father's diplomatic career, Lewis lived in various locations before pursuing a career in entertainment.

Career:
Lewis began his career in the late 1980s, landing minor roles in films such as the 1988 dark comedy Heathers and the 1991 Billy Crystal comedy City Slickers. He starred in the short-lived CBS sitcom Teech in 1991 and later built a prolific television resume.
Disney Channel: He achieved widespread fame as the strict, high-strung, yet warm-hearted Mr. Marion Moseby, a role he played from 2005 to 2011 across The Suite Life franchise.

Personal Life:
In late December 1991, Lewis was involved in a fatal car crash in Potomac, Maryland, that resulted in the death of 21-year-old Isabel Duarte. Lewis was driving while intoxicated and crossed the center line, causing a head-on collision. He was convicted of manslaughter and driving while intoxicated and sentenced to five years in prison. However, the judge suspended four years of the sentence, citing Lewis's remorse and his work with a prison-based theater troupe that educated people on the consequences of drug and alcohol abuse.
