Brief Biography:  James Douglas Muir Leno is best known for succeeding Johnny Carson on NBC’s The Tonight Show (1992–2009, 2010–2014), he remains an active and relentless stand-up performer. He is also widely celebrated for his vast, world-class automotive collection and the series Jay Leno's Garage.

Early Life and Start in Comedy:
Born in New Rochelle, New York, to a Scottish mother and an Italian-American father, Leno grew up in Andover, Massachusetts. Despite being dyslexic and once being advised by a high school guidance counselor to drop out, he graduated from Emerson College with a bachelor's degree in speech therapy. During his college years in Boston, he began performing stand-up in local clubs and founded a comedy club. He later moved to Los Angeles, taking on odd jobs while building a legendary reputation as one of the hardest-working road comics in the business, performing up to 300 nights a year.

Television and The Tonight Show:
Leno made his first appearance on The Tonight Show in March 1977. By 1987, he had become the program's permanent guest host, which ultimately led to him taking over the anchor desk from Johnny Carson in May 1992. Known for his observational, topical comedy and the signature segment "Headlines," Leno won several Emmy Awards and dominated late-night television ratings for decades. His tenure included two highly publicized transitions. In 2009, he left The Tonight Show to host The Jay Leno Show in primetime, paving the way for Conan O'Brien. Following network shifts, Leno returned to The Tonight Show in 2010 and hosted until 2014, when Jimmy Fallon took over.

Other Ventures:
Leno is an internationally recognized automotive authority, housing one of the most extensive car and motorcycle collections in the world. This passion led to his Emmy Award-winning series, Jay Leno's Garage, which aired for several seasons on CNBC. He also hosted a reboot of the classic game show You Bet Your Life. Leno has authored numerous books, including his anecdotal memoir Leading with My Chin, as well as multiple children's books and compilations of funny newspaper errors.
