Martin Fitzgerald Lawrence is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and filmmaker rising to fame in the 1990s through stand-up and his hit Fox sitcom Martin, he solidified his Hollywood stardom in massive comedy and action franchises like Bad Boys and Big Momma's House.
Early Life and Stand-Up Roots:
Born to American parents stationed overseas, Lawrence spent his early years in Germany before his family settled in Landover, Maryland. As a teenager, he was a talented Golden Gloves boxer but eventually channeled his renowned class-clown energy into stand-up comedy. After performing in the D.C. area, he moved to New York City to hone his act at The Improv.
Television and Breakthroughs:
Lawrence's big break came in 1987 when he appeared on the television talent competition Star Search.
