Brief Biography:
Craig Kilborn is an American comedian, actor, and television host known for his signature deadpan delivery and sharp, snarky wit. You can explore his early broadcast clips on IMDb or catch his conversational style on his current podcast via Visit California.
Early Life & Sports Broadcasting:
He played Division I college basketball at Montana State University before transitioning into sports broadcasting. He first gained national recognition in 1993 as an anchor on ESPN's SportsCenter, revolutionizing sports broadcasting by sprinkling irreverent humor and catchphrases into the highlights.
The Daily Show & Late Night:
In 1996, Kilborn was tapped to be the first host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show. He cemented the show's format and introduced popular segments like "5 Questions" before leaving in 1998. In 1999, he succeeded Tom Snyder as the host of CBS's The Late Late Show. He hosted the show for five years—often beating out competitors in key demographics with a smaller staff and no house band—before voluntarily leaving late-night television in 2004.
Film Work & Later Career:
After leaving CBS, Kilborn turned his focus to acting and made appearances in hit comedies. He is widely remembered for his role as Will Ferrell's rival (Mark) in the 2003 film Old School and as the villainous baseball coach in The Benchwarmers (2006). He briefly returned to television in 2010 to host a six-week trial of a talk show called The Kilborn File. In recent years, Kilborn has remained out of the mainstream spotlight, pursuing various projects such as his podcast, The Life Gorgeous.
