Brief Biography:
James Harvey "Jamie" Kennedy is best known for his breakout film roles in the (Scream) franchise and Malibu's Most Wanted, he built a massive television following by writing and starring in the prank sketch series The Jamie Kennedy Experiment.
Early Life and Hustle:
Born and raised in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania (a suburb of Philadelphia), Kennedy grew up as the youngest of six children in a Roman Catholic family. After high school, he briefly attended Delaware County Community College, where he dropped out of all his classes except acting to pursue a career in entertainment. In 1989, he moved to Los Angeles with aspirations of becoming a star. Struggling to land consistent work as a background extra and working odd jobs to get by, he invented a tough-talking, fictional celebrity agent named "Marty Power". He used this persona over the phone to aggressively pitch himself to casting directors and land his own stand-up bookings.
Acting Breakout:
Kennedy's hustle paid off when he landed his first major film roles in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet (1996) and the comedy As Good As It Gets (1997). His breakthrough performance arrived in 1996 as the horror-movie-savvy film geek Randy Meeks in Wes Craven’s blockbuster slasher Scream, a role he reprised in Scream 2 and Scream 3.
Television and Film Stardom:
In 2002, Kennedy created, produced, and starred in The Jamie Kennedy Experiment on The WB. The hit hidden-camera sketch show featured him playing a wide array of eccentric, original characters (including the famous "Federline Jones"). He followed this by writing and starring in the cult classic comedy film Malibu's Most Wanted (2003). Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, he balanced film and television roles, co-starring in Son of the Mask (2005), Kickin' It Old Skool (2007), and the CBS drama Ghost Whisperer (2005–2010). He also provided voice work for animated series like The Cleveland Show and the science-fiction epic Ad Astra (2019).
Current Career:
Kennedy has continually toured the country as a stand-up comedian and frequently releases self-produced material, such as his comedy specials on Tubi. He also runs the Wannabe Producers production company and regularly hosts podcasts, keeping a steady hand on the pulse of the changing media landscape.
