Gardell moved to Florida after his parents divorced. He started in comedy by working at Bonkerz comedy club in 1987, cleaning and answering phones before taking the stage for an open-mic night.
Television Breakthrough: He is best known for starring as Officer Mike Biggs on Mike & Molly (2010–2016) alongside Melissa McCarthy. He later starred as Bob Wheeler in Bob Hearts Abishola (2019–2024).
