Graduated from the University of California, Santa Ana, with a degree in chemical engineering before switching to comedy.
Rise to Fame: Appeared frequently on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and became known for observational humor combined with absurd props.

The Sledge-O-Matic:
Gallagher’s most famous routine was the "Sledge-O-Matic," a parody of commercial pitchmen where he used a large mallet to smash food items, most notably watermelons, often covering the audience in debris.

Tours: Continued touring regularly, performing 100–200 shows annually for over three decades.

Success and Legacy:
The Pioneer: Starred in An Uncensored Evening (1980), the first stand-up special to air on Showtime.

The Brother Feud: In the 1990s, he allowed his younger brother, Ron, to perform a copycat act. After Ron began misleading fans into thinking he was the original Gallagher, Leo sued him and won an injunction.
