Brief Biography:
Paul Frees was known as "The Man of a Thousand Voices". A staple of 1960s–70s television and film, he famously voiced Boris Badenov in The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, the Ghost Host in Disney's Haunted Mansion, and numerous characters for Rankin/Bass and Hanna-Barbera.
Early Life and Career:
Early Work: Started in vaudeville under the name Buddy Green in the 1930s before moving to radio.
Military Service: Served in World War II, landing at Normandy on D-Day, where he was wounded. He spent a year recovering.
Education: Attended the Chouinard Art Institute on the G.I. Bill but left to return to radio due to his wife's health.
Prolific Voice Work and Key Roles:
Frees was involved in over 250 films, cartoons, and TV shows, frequently uncredited.
Disney: Original voice of Ludwig Von Drake, the narrator of The Shaggy Dog and The Absent-Minded Professor, and various roles in Mary Poppins.
Rankin/Bass: Provided voices for many stop-motion specials, including Burgermeister Meisterburger in Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town.
