Al Franken former Democratic politician who served as a U.S. Senator from Minnesota from 2009 to 2018. Known for his extensive work on Saturday Night Live and his later career as a liberal political commentator, Franken transitioned from entertainment to politics, winning a seat in the Senate by a narrow margin in 2008.
Early Life and Education:
Education: He graduated cum laude from Harvard College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science.
Entertainment Career (Saturday Night Live):
Franken began his career as a comedy writer and performer, notably serving as one of the original writers for Saturday Night Live (SNL) in 1975.
He worked for 15 seasons on SNL across three different stints (1975–1980, 1985–1995), winning five Emmy Awards for writing and producing.
His notable work included the "Daily Affirmations with Stuart Smalley" sketch.

Following his SNL career, Franken became a prominent liberal voice, authoring several New York Times bestsellers, including Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations.
