Brief Biography:  Dorothy Devore was known for her work in "two-reeler" short comedies, she was one of the silent era's most talented and highest-paid stars.

Early Life and Career:
Birth & Education: Born in Fort Worth, Texas, she moved to Los Angeles as a child and completed her schooling there.
Start in Showbiz: She began her career in musical comedies and vaudeville before signing with Universal Pictures to star in the "Lyons and Moran" comedy series.
Stardom: She was "discovered" by producer Al Christie, becoming a leading lady in his popular "Christie Comedies". In 1923, she was honored as a WAMPAS Baby Star.

Career Highlights and Independence:
Preference for Shorts: Unlike many peers who used short films as a stepping stone, Devore preferred the two-reel format and often turned down feature film offers to continue working in them.
Warner Bros. Conflict: She signed a contract with Warner Bros. in 1924 but grew unhappy being cast alongside the canine star Rin Tin Tin. She eventually bought out her contract to regain creative control.
Production Company: Devore established her own production company, Dorothy Devore Comedies, where she managed her own films and performed her own stunts.

Retirement:
Devore retired from the film industry in 1930, following the transition from silent films to "talkies".
