Christopher William D'Elia (born March 29, 1980) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and podcast host known for his high-energy performances and roles in sitcoms such as Whitney and Undateable, as well as the Netflix thriller series You.
Early Life and Education:
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, D'Elia is the son of television producer and director Bill D'Elia and interior decorator Ellie D'Elia. He is of Italian and Polish descent. At age 12, his family moved to Los Angeles, where he later attended La Cañada High School. He attended New York University to study acting but dropped out after a year to pursue other endeavors.
Career:
Stand-up Comedy: D'Elia began his stand-up career in 2006, performing at the Ha Ha Café in North Hollywood. He has released several acclaimed comedy specials, including White Male, Black Comic (2013, Comedy Central), Incorrigible (2015, Netflix), Man on Fire (2017, Netflix), and No Pain (2020, Netflix).
Television and Acting: He gained recognition for his roles as Alex Miller on NBC's Whitney (2011–2013) and Danny Burton on NBC's Undateable (2014–2016). He also played Henderson in the second season of You (2019).
Podcasting: He has hosted the weekly podcast Congratulations with Chris D'Elia since February 2017. He was formerly a co-host of the Ten Minute Podcast.
Controversy: In 2020, D'Elia faced allegations of sexual harassment, leading to his removal from the film Army of the Dead.
