Brief Biography:
Bill Chott is an American actor, comedian, and improv coach best known for his roles as Mr. Laritate on Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place and Thomas in the film The Ringer. A veteran of Chicago's Second City comedy troupe, Chott has built a extensive career in television and film, including voice work for Saturday Night Live and a memorable role in This Is Us.
Early Life and Education:
Chott discovered his passion for acting in elementary school, performing in numerous plays and musicals throughout his youth. He graduated from Ritenour High School (later inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2010) and continued his education at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri, where he was involved in theater and the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity.
Career in Improv and Television:
In 1992, Chott moved to Chicago to pursue improv, training at IO Theater and joining the famous Second City comedy troupe. During the 1990s, he toured with Second City alongside comedy luminaries such as Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Rachel Dratch.
Television: Chott’s TV career began with writing and performing on The Dana Carvey Show. He is well-known for his role as Mr. Laritate on Wizards of Waverly Place (2008–2011) and made appearances in ER, Freaks and Geeks, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Film: He starred alongside Johnny Knoxville in The Ringer and appeared in Galaxy Quest, Dude, Where's My Car?, and The Rum Diary.
Voice Acting: He has provided voices for Saturday Night Live cartoons, including "The Ambiguously Gay Duo" and "X-Presidents," as well as characters on Curious George.
The Improv Trick:
In 2004, Chott founded The Improv Trick, an improv school with locations in Pasadena and Sherman Oaks, California. He is an acclaimed coach, winning the "Best Improv Coach" award at the 2012 INNY Awards, and he uses improv techniques to teach corporate teambuilding and communication.
