Andy Borowitz is an American satirist, comedian, and writer best known for creating the satirical news column The Borowitz Report and the hit NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Early Life and Education:
Borowitz grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. His interest in satire began in high school, where he served as the editor of the school newspaper specifically so he could produce its annual April Fool's issue. He later attended Harvard College, where he was elected president of the Harvard Lampoon before graduating in 1980.
Hollywood Career:
Shortly after graduation, Borowitz moved to Los Angeles and began a successful career in television.
Sitcom Writing: He wrote for several major shows, including Archie Bunker's Place and The Facts of Life.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: In 1990, he and his then-wife, Susan Borowitz, created the iconic sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which launched the acting career of Will Smith.
Film Production: He co-produced the critically acclaimed 1998 film Pleasantville.
Despite his Hollywood success, he moved to New York City in 1995 to pivot toward written satire and stand-up comedy.
Satire and The Borowitz Report:
In 2001, Borowitz launched The Borowitz Report, a daily satirical news column that gained a massive global following.
Acquisition by The New Yorker: In 2012, The New Yorker acquired the site, making it the magazine's first-ever digital acquisition.
