Brief Biography:  Michael Ian Black is an American comedian, actor, writer, and director known for his deadpan, sarcastic style and work in sketch comedy. He first gained prominence as a member of the comedy troupe The State in the 1990s and has since starred in numerous television series, including Viva Variety, Stella, Michael & Michael Have Issues, and Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.

Early Life and Education:
His father died at age 39 following an assault and subsequent medical complications. Black attended Stagedoor Manor performing arts camp and later attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts but dropped out to pursue his comedy career.

Career:
The State & Early Career: Black co-founded the sketch comedy group The State in 1988, which featured on MTV.
Voice Acting/TV: He gained notoriety as the puppeteer and voice actor for the Pets.com sock puppet (1998–2000). He also played Phil Stubbs on the NBC drama Ed.
"I Love the..." Series: He became a recognizable face on VH1’s nostalgia series, providing commentary on pop culture.
Film & Television: He co-created and starred in Stella (Comedy Central) with frequent collaborators Michael Showalter and David Wain. He is well-known for his role as McKinley in the Wet Hot American Summer film and Netflix series.
Screenwriting: Black wrote the screenplays for Wedding Daze (2006)—which he also directed—and Run, Fatboy, Run (2007).
Podcasting & Books: He has released several books, including adult memoirs (You're Not Doing It Right), children's books (I'm Bored), and essays (My Custom Van). He hosts several podcasts, including How to Be Amazing and Obscure.
