Brief Biography:
Amanda Bearse is an American actress, director, and comedian best known for her role as Marcy D'Arcy on the FOX sitcom Married... with Children (1987–1997). A Neighborhood Playhouse alumna, she began on All My Children and starred in the cult film Fright Night (1985) before becoming a prolific television director.
Early Life and Career:
Education: Studied acting at Birmingham Southern College and the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City under Sanford Meisner.
Early Roles: She played Amanda Cousins on the soap opera All My Children from 1981 to 1984.
Film: She gained recognition for her role as Amy Peterson in the 1985 horror cult film Fright Night and appeared in Protocol (1984) and Fraternity Vacation (1985).
Married... with Children (1987–1997):
Bearse played the high-strung bank manager Marcy Rhoades (later Marcy D'Arcy), the neighbor to Ed O'Neill's character Al Bundy.
During her time on the show, she began directing, helming 31 episodes of the series, launching her career behind the camera.
Directing and Later Career:
Following Married... with Children, Bearse became a prolific director for television, including episodes of Reba, Mad TV, Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher, and The Tom Show. She made her off-Broadway directorial and acting debut in the 2017 production Party Face.
